Cashing up without balancing by hand

Ordeli cashes up from the previous close, not from midnight, which is how a venue that shuts in the early hours actually works. It records the float, cash takings, withdrawals and the physical count, and works out the discrepancy itself. With a second signature if you configure one.

No card, no lock-in.

Close to close, not midnight to midnight

If you shut at two in the morning, what you took at one belongs to that night's shift, not to the next day's.

The discrepancy appears by itself

Float plus takings minus withdrawals is what should be there. What is actually there, you count. The difference is the system's job.

A second signature if you want one

You can require a second manager to approve the close with their own credentials. Who signed and when is on the record.

The discrepancy is not the problem: not knowing where it came from is

Every till goes out sometimes. What hurts is closing thirty euros short with no way of telling whether it was change given wrong, a withdrawal nobody wrote down, or something worse.

So the close records every piece separately instead of asking for a final number: the float you opened with, what came in as cash, money in and out during the shift, and the physical count at the end.

If you are used to running a Z report and counting the drawer against it, this is that same reconciliation with the middle steps written down. The Z report tells you what the till believes; the discrepancy only becomes findable when the float and the movements are on the record too.

What gets recorded on every close

Enough to reconstruct the night without ringing anyone the next day.

  • Till float, configurable per venue and adjustable in the close itself.
  • An opening count, optional, to catch a discrepancy before service.
  • Cash takings for the period, worked out from the actual payments.
  • Money in and out during the shift, each with its reason.
  • Physical count by denomination and the amount banked.
  • Declared cash tips, informational and outside every total.
  • A note for damaged or suspect notes, in its own field.
  • Free-text remarks from whoever closed.

Cash tips balance against nothing, and that is correct

A cash tip goes from the customer to the waiter without passing through the till or the system. Putting it into the count would balance one number and falsify another.

It is recorded separately, as a declared figure, and enters no total and no reconciliation. It tells you what the team took home, not what should be in the drawer.

And every payment leaves its tax record

Cashing up is not only counting money: it is the moment the day closes for tax purposes too. Every payment has been creating its signed, chained VeriFactu record along the way, or TicketBAI if the venue is in the Basque Country.

Which means the history cannot be touched afterwards. Voiding something leaves a trace of who voided it and when, which is exactly what the rule requires.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as a cash-up or a Z report?

It is the cash-up, and it does more than a Z report. A Z report totals what the till thinks it took; this also records the float, the money in and out during the shift and the physical count, which is what lets you find where a discrepancy came from.

What happens if I close at three in the morning?

Nothing special, which is precisely the point. The period runs from the previous close to this one, so what you took after midnight belongs to that night and does not split the day in two.

Can I stop a close going through with a large discrepancy?

The close validates before saving and flags what does not add up. And if you switch on dual approval, a second manager has to sign it off with their own credentials.

Can a close be edited after the event?

No. A close is a ledger entry: it stays as it is. If something needs correcting it is done with a later movement that leaves a trace, not by erasing the previous one.

Is it any use if almost everything is paid by card?

Yes, and you still need it. Even when cash is a small share, it is the share that goes out, and the close also gives you the breakdown by payment method for the period.

Can I cash up more than once a day?

Yes, and in venues with a lunch and an evening shift that is the sensible thing. Each close opens the next period, so the figures never overlap.

Who can cash up?

Admin and manager profiles. If you switch on dual approval, a second manager also has to sign it with their own credentials.
