VeriFactu for bars and restaurants
VeriFactu requires your billing software to produce signed, chained and tamper-proof records of every receipt. It applies to any bar, restaurant or cafe in Spain issuing invoices or receipts from a computer system. Ordeli complies out of the box: every payment creates its signed record with no action from you.
No card, no lock-in. VeriFactu and TicketBAI included in every plan.
Compliant without doing anything
The record is signed and chained at the moment of payment. There is no button to remember and no end-of-day process to run.
No separate module
Included in every plan, same as TicketBAI. Not an add-on you buy when the deadline starts to bite.
Ready in the time it takes to upload a certificate
No migration, no installation, no engineer visit. Upload the venue certificate and you are issuing compliant receipts.
What VeriFactu is, in one sentence
It is the Spanish Tax Agency scheme requiring billing software to produce complete, traceable and unalterable records. It comes from the Regulation approved by Royal Decree 1007/2023, which develops Law 11/2021 against tax fraud.
In practice, every receipt you issue leaves a digitally signed record chained to the one before it. If anyone edits or deletes a sale, the chain breaks and the break is on the record.
- Each record carries a fingerprint linking it to the previous one.
- Receipts include a QR code the customer can verify.
- The software cannot allow a issued sale to be deleted or altered.
- Dual-use programs — the ones that let you keep two sets of books — are banned.
The dates, and why you will see different ones elsewhere
The current calendar is set by the fourth final provision of Royal Decree 1007/2023 as it now reads: businesses paying corporation tax must be compliant before 1 January 2027, and everyone else covered — sole traders included — before 1 July 2027.
Those are not the original dates. Royal Decree 254/2025 had set January and July 2026, and Royal Decree-Law 15/2025 of 2 December moved them by a year. That is why pages, and software, still quote 2026: those are the old ones.
Our practical advice: do not wait for the deadline. Adapting costs the same now as in a year, and being late on a tax obligation is expensive. If your POS already complies, the calendar stops being your problem.
If you issue receipts from a program, it applies to you
To any bar, restaurant, cafe, pizzeria or food truck issuing invoices or receipts from a computer system. Venue size is irrelevant, and so is the fact that most of your customers never ask for a full invoice: the simplified receipt counts too.
The exception is businesses already reporting under the Immediate Supply of Information scheme, which in hospitality is a small minority.
In Ordeli it is already done
Ordeli creates the billing record at the moment of payment, signs it and chains it to the previous one. There is no extra step to remember and no module to buy separately.
- Signed, chained record on every payment, with no staff involvement.
- The venue digital certificate encrypted at rest.
- Automatic resending of any records that failed to go out.
- Simplified and full invoices, numbered consecutively with no gaps.
- TicketBAI included for venues in the Basque Country.
The fine lands on whoever uses the software, not whoever sells it
The penalty regime separates using non-compliant software from building or selling it. For the operator, the penalty for running a non-conforming system can reach 50,000 euros per financial year.
Worth knowing: the responsibility is yours even though the software is somebody else's. The Tax Agency penalises the user.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to buy a new POS system to comply with VeriFactu?
Not necessarily. What has to comply is the billing software, not the hardware. If your current program does not adapt you will have to change it, but the computer or tablet works just the same.
Is this the same as an EPOS or till system?
Yes — the terms are interchangeable. British and Irish operators tend to say EPOS or till system, Spanish vendors say TPV, and most software in this market is marketed as a POS system. What matters for VeriFactu is the billing software behind it, whatever it is called.
Are VeriFactu and TicketBAI the same thing?
No. TicketBAI is the Basque Country scheme and has been in force longer; VeriFactu is the national one. A venue in Bilbao complies with TicketBAI, one in Madrid with VeriFactu. Ordeli implements both.
Do I have to send every receipt to the Tax Agency in real time?
Only if you choose voluntary submission, which is what gives the scheme its name. The alternative is keeping the signed records and making them available to the Tax Agency on request.
Do receipts have to carry a QR code?
Yes. The customer must be able to verify the receipt by scanning it. Ordeli includes it on both the printed and the digital receipt.
How long does it take to adapt with Ordeli?
The time it takes to upload your digital certificate. From then on, every payment creates its compliant record with no extra step.
If I void a receipt, does it disappear from the record?
No, and that is precisely the point of the rule. The void is recorded as such, with who did it and when, chained like everything else. A system that let you delete without a trace is what the Regulation bans.
